Guardamar del Segura
At the mouth of the Segura River lies Guardamar del Segura, north of Torrevieja and 35 kilometers south of Alicante. Guardamar is situated on a hill and is surrounded by the River Segura. An old center with castle and other remains reminds of the time that the town was occupied by the Greeks. Guardamar has the longest sandy beaches of the Costa Blanca and behind the beaches is a protected nature and dune area. This will no longer be built with hotels, residential areas and apartments. The eastern part of Guardamar del Segura is completely occupied by the "Dunes of Guardamar", a huge forest park that covers 840 hectares and has been declared a Protected Natural Area. On a walk through the Park Reina Sofia with its beautiful lakes, waterfalls and trails and one can admire the beautiful fauna and flora. Along the almost 15 km long coastal strip of Guardamar stretches fine sandy beaches. The most visited beaches are the Playa Centro or the Playa La Roqueta. If you prefer deserted beaches, you can enjoy the Playa del Moncayo or the Playa de Los Tusales, at the mouth of the Segura. All beaches are perfectly equipped for bathers.
